Beaches

Trang has over a hundred and nineteen kilometers of coastline just waiting for you to explore! The long white sand beaches are lined with casurina trees and renowned for their scenic beauty and glistening islands, a short distance off the shore invite visitors. Relatively few tourists go to Trang so it is possible to stroll along the beach without seeing anyone else except the occasional fisherman.

Changlang Beach

The location of the Amari Trang Beach Resort, this beach is several kilometers long making its white sands a great place to take a stroll. It is covered in beautiful spiral shaped shells, which are a real treat for collectors and swaying casurina trees make the perfect backdrop. This long stretch of deserted beach has a limestone cliff riddled with small caves at one end and is where the Chao Mai National Park Headquarters is located. The beach is also famous for the nearby mountain, which resembles a reclining man.

Pak Meng Beach

A short distance north of Changlang Beach, Pak Meng is part of the Had Chao Mai National Park. Boats can easily be taken to the surrounding islands from the pier at the northern end of the beach and there are some excellent seafood restaurants also. In addition, at the nearby Rajamangla Institute of Technology, there is a small aquarium with many different types of fish.

Chao Mai Beach

This beach has uninterrupted views of Koh Libong, Trangีs largest island. In addition, the beach has a 30 meter cavern at the base of its largest mountain, Chao Mai Cave, where stalactites have formed.

Had Yao Beach

This beach is the starting point for tours into the mangrove swamp. On the banks of the estuary, you can see life carrying on as it has done for centuries with the local men returning home with their boats loaded with seafood to sell.

Yong Lin Beach

A curved beach, parallel to a pine forest, Yong Lin is on the way to Chao Mai Beach. It is ideal for swimming and at the end of the beach there is a high mountain with caves.

Samran Beach

Fringed by a thick pine forest, from this beach you can clearly see the islands of Sukhon, Petra, Lao Lien and Libong. If you are lucky, you may also see dolphins jumping in the morning.

Islands

There are forty six islands to explore off the coastline of Trang, featuring shallow water good for snorkeling and dramatic limestone scenery. The main islands are highlighted below:

Koh Kradan

This is considered to be the most beautiful island in Trang and has fine white sand beaches and crystal clear water, through which you can see the corals. Most of the islandีs interior is covered by rubber and coconut plantations and forest. One of the bays has larger waves, which are excellent for surfing.

Koh Sukon

The local name for this island is Koh Mu (pig island) although the majority of the people who live here are Muslim fisher folk. The island is remote and so is a tranquil place, which enjoys golden sands plus coral beds on the eastern coast, which are excellent for snorkeling and diving. During March and April, delicious watermelons grow in abundance.

Koh Muk

This rugged cliff-ringed island, the second largest in the Hat Chao Mai National Park, is famous for itีs special feature, the Morakot (Emerald) Cave. The entrance to the cave, on the west coast, is low and hidden from view. At low tide, visitors can swim through an eighty metre long dark tunnel, and emerge in an enchanted lagoon, where there is a small white powder beach surrounded by the towering limestone cliffs. Koh Muk also has a small fishing village and several nice beaches.

Koh Libong

Trang's largest island, Koh Libong is considered to be one of the best places for bird watching. In November and December, migratory birds from Siberia can be seen on the Juhoy Cape and Toob Beach. The island is also home to wildlife such as green turtles, dolphins and dugong (manatee). It is estimated that two dozen of these endangered mammals live off the Juhoy Cape. In addition, the interior of the island is excellent for climbing and has lovely views. There is also a small but pleasant waterfall.

Koh Petra and Koh Lao Lien

These islands, actually in Saturn province, but reachable from Southern Trang, are the most northerly of the 22 islands making up the protected Koh Petra National Marine Park. The islands have particularly spectacular cliffs, which soar out of the water and are home to many varieties of sea birds. The interiors of the islands are densely forested and the beaches have reefs with good snorkeling and diving.

Koh Chuak

These are the small islands between Koh Muk and Koh Kradan. They are teeming with both shallow and deep water coral and many types of fish.

Koh Ngai

This small island, surrounded by coral reefs, has beautiful white sand and clear water.
